MAG Reaffirms Accreditation of the Chatham County Jail

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--The Chatham County Sheriff's Office was notified Monday that the jail medical program provided by Corizon Health is fully accredited by the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG).

Medical Association of Georgia reaffirms accreditation of Chatham County Jail's medical program provided by Corizon

The Chatham County Jail was first accredited by MAG in July 2014, receiving a 100 percent score on the health services audit.

Previous to MAG's accreditation, the jail was fully accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health (NCCHC), an independent organization created by the American Medical Association that sets the standards recognized by the medical profession and the courts as the benchmark for establishing and measuring a correctional health services system.

MAG's accreditation and Corizon Health policies and practices at the jail are based upon NCCHC standards.

Corizon Health President and Chief Operating Officer Scott Bowers said hard work by both the CCSO jail leadership and Corizon Health's team of professionals to maintain consistently high standards of care have assured the County that the jail medical program meets recognized standards of care.

"Corizon Health has maintained a quality healthcare program in Chatham County for the past 23 years," Bowers said.

Bowers commended the Sheriff's Office and Corizon staff for continuing to work together in the wake of a high-profile and politically charged inmate death to ensure the healthcare needs of Chatham County detainees are met.

"I have every confidence in our people, policies and practices in Chatham County," Bowers said. "I want to acknowledge and thank our front-line healthcare professionals for their steadfast dedication to the patients in our care throughout the challenges of the past year."
